If you wish to travel to another country with a brief layover in the United States, or you are a crewmember traveling to the United States as a passenger to join a ship or aircraft you will work on, you will need to apply for and obtain a U.S. transit visa.
The U.S. transit visa requirements are easily understandable. However, further documents to be submitted depend on your personal situation and can vary on a case-to-case basis. Incomplete information, insufficient evidence, and legal obstacles often lead to long processing times, and even visa rejection.
VisaExpress is here to offer you a hassle-free experience and make sure you receive your U.S. transit visa as quickly as possible.
Here’s what you need to know
Even if the U.S. transit visa requirements are easy to understand, the hassle of paperwork and complicated official procedures make the entire process time-consuming. To avoid these costly risks, get peace of mind, and have your visa issued in a timely manner, we recommend benefiting from the services of immigration and U.S. visa experts.
As an applicant you must:
- Have a valid passport. The validity date must be at least 6 months beyond your intended period of stay (unless exempted).
- Intend to pass in transit through the United States.
- Have a common carrier ticket or other evidence of transportation arrangements to your destination.
- Have permission to enter another country upon departure from the United States.
- Have sufficient funds to cover your travel, accommodation, and other expenses while in the United States.
- Have a copy of your current employment contract, if available.

All flights that stop in the USA require passengers to go through U.S. immigration and customs. You either need a visa waiver or a visa. It does not matter how short the stop is in the USA, you need the same required paperwork as if you were staying in the U.S. for a visit.
If there is not sufficient time to get a visa, or you do not wish to apply for one, you’ll need to get (your company – if applicable) to change your flights to a route that does not cross the United States, which will likely involve the payment of a change fee and the difference in fare.
